After six interviews over three weeks (there was supposed to be a seventh) I was rejected for not showing enough enthusiasm for a secret set of requirements that were never outlined in the job description or discussed in interviews. The job has since been reported twice under different titles. The interview process, while lengthy, was pleasant enough. It was stressed that the job would focus heavily on their websites. I expressed my wholehearted interest in that, as I had been performing multiple roles in my current job and was eager to focus more heavily on the web side of the business. After interviews were completed, the recruiter said the company was very interested and she’d be back to me in the next day or two. I waited a week. I was told I was rejected because I had expressed my interest in focusing on website development and not other tasks like social media and email marketing. The fact that those things never came up once in the job description or numerous interviews confused me just a little, but I figured they found some chump who said they could do the work of three people. Since then, the job has been reposted twice, first as Wordpress Developer and now as Frontend Developer, with almost the exact same requirements, minus all the other stuff they won’t tell you up front. At least now the requirements include “comfort with ambiguity,” so they admit they have no idea what they’re doing or what they’re looking for. It’s a great place to interview with if you have no respect for your time or yourself.
