I first talked to an external recruiter who put me forward for the first phone screen with the hiring manager. The hiring manager was easy to talk to, but the more we talked about the job, I realized it was not a fit for me. The manager was incredibly gracious about letting me back out of the rest of the interview process and even suggested other open roles outside of his group that would be a better fit to apply for.
