Filled out online application, was contacted by a recruiter a few days later and had initial phone interview a few days after that. Recruiter asked me basic get to know you, hear your story questions and indicated she’d be recommending me to talk to hiring manager. After much delay, was told I’d be interviewing with hiring manager a few hours beforehand. Second interview was similar to first with hiring manager saying many times how perfect I was for the job, inviting me to talk to them again in a few days. Emailed recruiter after hearing nothing for weeks and was told I’d be skipping the next round to come in for final round to meet team lead. Team lead was pretty much the worst human I’ve met in my life let alone an interview, who admitted he didn’t know anything about mortgage finance and therefore he spent the hour quizzing me on fun facts about a company I once interned with for 6 weeks (about products my division didn’t produce, and when I told him as such he berated me for not having learned about obscure product lines during that 6 weeks). He clearly hadn’t read my resume beyond that, as he explained to me what certain concepts were that I had spent years working on, and made categorically incorrect statements about Fannies business/housing finance/GSE reform (and at one point dismissed something I had worked on with the Fannie folks in my old job as “4 years ago, it’s 2019 now so that doesn’t matter anymore). As others have said, you’d think the company would be gracious about their position and slightly receptive to candidates with extensive mortgage securitization experience, but instead it was the first time I was tempted to walk out of an interview and the first time I’ve withdrawn my candidacy for a job without waiting to hear their decision about my interview.
