I was contacted by HR to schedule a phone call about the position I applied for, but after waiting 20 minutes past the scheduled time, I sent a courtesy message and received an immediate call with a brief apology. Instead of discussing the role, the recruiter told me I wasn’t qualified and recommended an entry-level position at half the pay. While I understand the reasoning, this could have been communicated upfront via email. The conversation felt impersonal and more about meeting numbers than finding a genuine fit. Referring to the low pay as the “price of paradise” was dismissive and unprofessional, especially in a place with such a high cost of living.
