I had one phone screen and I opted to end our call early. I couldn’t believe the way my interviewer presented himself.
The interviewer reached out to me to schedule the initial call and asked for my availability over the next few days. I provided my availability for that week and just for good measure, added an additional slot into the following week on a Monday. He got back to me 4 days later with this message:
“Unfortunately, I am already booked during the 1 hour time block you provided for Monday; is there any additional availability in your schedule?”
There was no “sorry for not responding sooner” and it sounded like I only gave him one 1 hour slot of time when I provided several options. I thought this was an odd tone at the time but chalked it up to him being busy and provided additional availability which did allow us to land on a date and time.
Side note: everyone uses Calendly now. So if you’re reading this FluentStream, get Calendly for your employees.
On to the phone screen interview…
Our call started with some light chatting about our plans for the weekend and then we went right into questions about me. I don’t even remember what question was asked of me but I started providing an answer and was abruptly cut off. He went on a tangent and told me I was being ambiguous and carried on saying how important it was to not be ambiguous. The tone was rude and condescending. If he wanted an example for what I was saying, well he could have just waited because I was getting there or ya know, asked if I have an example.
After his long tangent (it felt like 2-3 minutes but I wasn’t timing it) I said a couple of sentences to get us back on the subject of the original question and was about to get into my example when I was rudely interrupted with “IN WHAT WAY?”
At this point, I didn’t want to bother any longer with dancing around this guys attitude. I told him I didn’t feel like I was clicking with him and that I didn’t feel I could express my strengths and would like to end the interview.
This isn’t the way you talk to potential employees or people in general. On top of that, this is a candidate’s market. I had two additional interviews with other companies scheduled that same day. It was no sweat off my back to cross FluentStream off the list.

Several rounds, conversations with potential colleagues and a presentation project along with a round of meeting with leadership. In line with modern recruiting, candidates are ghosted between rounds of scheduling the next meeting. This reflects the lack of values and professionalism of the FluentStream Tech. People do not matter especially, candidates.
