Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Forensic Analytical Consulting Services (Grand Rapids, MI) nel mese di apr 2019
Colloquio
First spoke with their HR person who was located in California (I was located in Michigan, this was about a position in their Michigan office).
One of the stipulations that was emphasized was that I would need to be able to keep track of different timezones for various offices they had through out the country (this is important for later).
The conversation went well, and I was set up for a 3-way Zoom call with the company owners. One of them was calling from a Denver vacation resort. They seemed impressed by my relevant work experience, and everyone was friendly all around.
Then I was scheduled to meet the main manager at the local office. The person I would actually be working under. The appointment was handled by the same HR person in California.
When I arrived for my in-person interview at the office, they weren’t aware that I was showing up. The main office manager, who I was to meet, wasn’t there that day. I ended up talking with the assistant manager for a while. We seemed to get along well.
The office appeared to be a comfortable place to work, although the room that I would be working in seemed like more of a storage room.
I would need to come back to meet the actual manager. Again, that appointment would be set by the California HR person again.
When I arrived for the second in-person interview, there was only a couple people at the office. The rest (included the office manager) were out getting donuts. Somehow, they were given the wrong time for the my appointment. I guess they weren’t very good at keeping track of timezones.
They quickly blamed the HR person on the west coast, but I got a sense that they just weren’t organized very well.
The meeting with the manager went ok. But he seemed to have his own agenda for what the job should be. He had his own side projects he wanted to focus on. I was looking at a technical illustrator position, but he seemed to focus on app development. Also, he was really excited about telling me how the office would take breaks and play indoor golf.
I left confused about the position and the company.
A few days later, I received an email from a different HR person saying the previous one no longer works for them, and that she would be taking over. She then wanted me to fill out an online skills assessment quiz, another employment history form and submit references.
After that, I was never contacted again. None of my references were contacted either.
I consider this a bullet dodged.
