The interview process encompassed both a phone interview and an in-person meeting. During the initial phone interview, questions were posed concerning my experience, background, and career objectives. The interaction was pleasant. Subsequently, the in-person interview involved two distinct sessions. The initial session included the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and two Software Engineers (SWEs)/recruiters. The questions primarily focused on technical aspects, supplemented by some behavioral questions. The subsequent session involved the entire development team, offering a valuable opportunity to familiarize myself with the team I could potentially collaborate with.
The COO of FundView consistently praised the company's small-size culture and enhanced employee visibility but failed to substantiate claims about entry-level career advancement. The discussion took a negative turn when I expressed that my salary expectations were over double what I soon realized was their non-negotiable entry-level salary. In response, the COO adopted a defensive and condescending tone, implying that promotions prioritize Years of Experience (YOE) over merit and outright stating, "Don't take offense to this, but it is impossible" for me to earn what I believe is fair compensation at FundView. This, coupled with entry-level compensation significantly below market value for individuals with a four-year degree, diminished my interest in the company.
