I was invited to apply to a research consultant position after interviewing with a hiring manager at the company. The hiring manager was very kind and communicative. My interview, while a really interesting conversation, was a bit weird in hindsight. It was virtual, I could barely see the interviewers face and the interview was unstructured. Specifically, the "laid-back" conversation style did not allow for me to discuss my experiences in depth. At times, I felt that the interviewer was speaking more than I was. In the end, I was not offered a position because they could not find a good fit within the company as the job was, in fact, nonexistent. During the interview I asked for a description of the job duties including the team I would be working with. Both questions were dismissed with the interviewer skirting around the answers by saying, "Everyone's experience is different." While I believe that (it can be true at any company), there are actual requirements and expectations of the RC which I found later in a physical, recent job posting from them. It's really a shame because I was excited about the company and I have a great deal of the experience they were looking for in that call. Unfortunately, their hiring practices soured me to them.
