Spoke to recruiter over the phone; standard discussion going over work history, experience, qualifications, and expectations. Then had an on-camera interview with hiring manager and a group of others. About half technical and half STAR type questions. I know I got everything technical correct. The recruiter called later, confirming that I passed the technical portion and that they wanted to move on to the next stage, an interview with the director (on Monday). So a meeting was set up for Monday, and I cleared my schedule for that day and prepared for the meeting over the weekend. That day, just before the meeting was scheduled, I got an alert (not from a human) saying the meeting was canceled, with no explanation. I asked the HR recruiter via email if there was a problem, and if they needed to reschedule. No response. Waited patiently, still no response. Finally, I called the recruiter directly, and they said they had no idea what was going on either, but would try to find out. Waited until the next day, and still was told nothing. Finally, I had to call the recruiter directly again, and they just said "Well they must have decided to go another direction" or some such. Very strange, and certainly unprofessional (to me, but also awkward/unprofessional to not tell the HR person).
