The process took about 3+ weeks. Initial video screening interview with a complacent HR person, in a home-office setting. They asked me to talk about myself and answered a few questions. I am quite experienced professional, I have been in the IT for 20y. I am active in the industry and in the research community. Despite, then a week later a only standard declining answer came through e-mail without giving any detail as to why I am not suitable for them or for the position. The company values are a typical coder / developer, fast-paced, 'deploy under all circumstances' style IT company, without giving any attention to come up with real good code, or creating any value in the long run. They *have to* deploy every month on the same day. Low-quality company. Avoid them at all cost.

US MILITARY RESERVISTS BEWARE!! I was declined due to being transparent and asking about how Gitlab supports active reservists. Their policy handbook is publicly available and states that a prospective member of Gitlab shall not be discriminated due to military obligations. Tech recruiter mentioned I came across well. I replied back with more details about my “1-weekend every 2 months commitment” which is better than most reservists I know. Security manager never gave me a chance to prove myself. Disqualified me based on being military? I’m honestly disgusted. Tech recruiter was very pleasant to talk to and shared very good info. I’ve shared my experience with other big software companies I’ve interviewed with and they were shocked as I am(military experience or not). Hopefully the executives read this and are able to make changes. But if you’re a reservist, I advise you to stay away and save yourself some time from being discriminated.
