I had a screening call with the recruiter, then 3 interviews with the hiring manager, 2 further interviews with other GitLab team members and finally a presentation. The questions I was asked felt like they were aimed at the right level.
It was a long process but that gave me time to really consider the role, and in a way made me want it more. I felt like my time and effort was valued. GitLab's recruiting team is fantastic, they kept me up to date every step of the way and were very responsive. Easily the most positive recruiting experience I have had.

This was a complete waste of time. Knowing that there is a strong culture for Google Hangouts, I scheduled the morning off so I could take the video call in a shirt and tie without raising suspicion at the office.
My interviewer was 15 minutes late, with no note or heads up. When he joined, he blamed internet trouble, and suggested we turn off cameras. Ah. I could have taken this from the office.
And although we had planned on 30 minutes, he hurried through his questions for me and left me no time to ask questions before he had to take off for his next call.
He referred me to the Employee Handbook to determine what the salary is for the role, and self serve getting answers to any questions I had.
I ended up going straight to the handbook to look up the salary in my region (there is a formula). I couldn’t find the role I was interviewing for, so I emailed the recruiter.
A few days pass and I had yet to receive a response, so I followed up. This was a while ago and I have not heard back. Come on, team, just respond to my email, or send me a rejection at this point.
The other reviews are real. This wasn’t a good experience for me. Is this a reflection on how the company is run? I doubt it. But it certainly isn't indicative of a well run Talent Acquisition team.
