      Colloquio per Sales Development Representative

      7 feb 2015
      Candidato anonimo a colloquio
      Sausalito, CA
      Nessuna offerta
      Esperienza neutra
      Colloquio facile

      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto una settimana. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Glassdoor (Sausalito, CA) nel mese di feb 2015

      Colloquio

Straightforward. I was asked a lot of the same questions from different people interviewing me in the sales dept. After initial phone screening and interview, the final step is a presentation on yourself and your education, work experience, and desire to work at Glassdoor. Repetitive interview process as you tell your story 3 people on the team, plus the SDR manager. During the interview and presentations, talk about your failures, overcoming hard times, and seem REALLY excited about phone sales. They don't care a lot about who you are, but they do want to hear about your sales successes--make sure you really want to be calling companies all day, merely setting appointments for the execs. This is the entire role of an SDR and if this thrills you, you will fit in just fine. I was not as excited for the particular role of calling companies all day than I was about working for the company, which seemed to be the main hesitation to bring me on to the "team." The job itself seems mindless and repetitive but the company has a smaller SDR team than Trulia, Salesforce, etc. so could be good for those coming from those kinds of companies. A red flag brought up multiple times to me by several on the team, was how many companies call angrily about negative reviews left by disgruntled employees. How would I handle such angry clients? This question was posed by different people throughout the interview process so it must be a common issue they deal with on the sales team. Ultimately, the sales team seems to be a mold you either fit--or you don't and they will vote "yes" or "no" on you, just like a reality TV show once you step out of the room after your presentation. Very informal and the whole team is under 30. I felt like I was back in high school in some ways. Still, there seem to be a lot of happy people there and if you fit the mold or want some practice interviewing around, it's worth the trip out there.

Thank you for your feedback. It's clear from your review that I did not clearly communicate to you the process and also that I did not articulate to you why we were asking the types of questions that we ask. I didn't mean for our process to come across this way to you. I'll explain a little more below and our reasoning behind what we do which I hope helps. I think that you describe the general outline of the SDR interview process correctly: 1) Phone screen 2) In person interviews 3) Final presentation given to the SDR team When you mention that we want SDRs excited about phone sales you're spot on. However, I hope I did not portray the role as just a "phone sales" job and that I put more emphasis on "sales". We are looking for SDRs who have a strong desire to be in sales. In my experience sales is an art and science that takes a specific type of individual to be successful. Once an SDR is hired, we then spend a lot of time training on improving in the art of sales so that making phone calls becomes a byproduct of providing value to our customers but is not the whole job. Also, we're looking to hear about success in general but not necessarily in sales. As you saw, we have extremely successful SDRs from a variety of backgrounds. We've hired a poker player, social worker, college grads, recruiters, and SDRs from other companies who have all performed at the top of the group. What set each apart was that they were able to tell their story and how they have been uniquely successful throughout their life. Someone who is able to overcome challenges and be the best at what they do, no matter their background, is more likely to be a high performer in our SDR org. As far as the final presentation, we do involve members of the SDR team. Each SDR after the presentation is asked to provide their feedback and that feedback is taken into consideration for the final decision. It's a unique model but it helps us hire people that will push our performance to a higher level. It's also unique because you get to meet your future team mates and can learn if this culture is right for you as well. Thanks again. I hope this long(ish) response helps clarify things a bit. Colloquio

I met Marijka and Caroline who made me feel so at ease from the second I walked in the door. They were both chatty and bubbly and allowed for a very open conversation. It was around my background and how my experience can relate to the position. A few competency based questions thrown in too. Mainly about what motivates you and your growth mindset. The interview was 45 minutes and the a 30 minute role play.

Overall interview process was one of the nicest interviews I’ve had. First phone call with recruiter, (informal and get to know you and a bit on your background) This lead to an on site interview the following week with two sales managers. Two genuine lovely women who I connected with immediately. 45 mins of competency based interview questions Then a 15 minute mock call.

I had a phone screen with a recruiter who went through why I wanted to work there and general questions such as why I’m looking to move and my salary expectations etc. I then had a face to face interview with manager which was a 45 minute competency based interview and then a 15 minute qual call that I had to prepare for and I also had to prepare a question that was asked in the interview - how I would secure 100 opportunities in a quarter.

How I prepared for the interview? What I know about glassdoor? How I perform in teams? How I like to be managed? My 5 year plan?
