I applied online through a government portal for a Traineeship geared at fresh graduates. The interviewers were extremely unprofessional and asked me to present a project I did in university on the spot, with no notice. Despite my explanations on the limitations of the project( final report maximum 8 pages incl appendices and cover and content pages) thus no space for elaborate graphs, they continuously criticised the lack of clear graphical representations. In addition, the interviewers had poor command of the English language and constantly misunderstood what I said - often telling me I was wrong and then rephrasing my replies as the “correct”. There were also many miscommunications, where they asked me to explain a project, then cut me off and said “This is not what we want to know, we want to know if you were the leader”. They did not ask if I was the leader or indicate in any way that they wanted to know about my leadership experience. I was also criticised for working while studying, which is common in the country I studied abroad in but not my home country. I was then informed that I needed to research more on the difference between CE and the other types of engineering more, which was absolutely ridiculous. In addition I was mocked for not doing any UNDERGRADUATE subjects specifically involving wafer fabrication. The interviewers also criticised me for not doing an internship in an area that my university was known for, which is odd, as internships and universities are quite separate. Finally, I was asked invasive questions about why I studied abroad. When I answered that I studied abroad as the area I was interested in is not very well funded in my home country, the interviewer proceeded to yet again criticise the COUNTRY I studied abroad in for also not being well known for the field. He then claimed I studied abroad for different reasons, at which I told him it was personal and I was not comfortable with sharing. He then harassed me thrice more about this matter, and I tried to shut this down. The final straw was when he said that my home country was more well known for the field( but all the local universities stopped offering postgraduate courses for that field in 2019, and undergraduate courses will cease in 2022) at which I tried to end the interview in a professional and polite manner, and was cut off by the interviewer who continued to ask “But I wanna know whyyyyy you went abroad”. In the end I told him to mind his own business, stop asking invasive questions, and thanked them for their time, told them not to contact me any further and hung up. This was the worse interview I have ever gone through ever.
