I responded to an online job ad, received an email same or possibly next day asking me to interview. While the company was listed as Torchmark in the ad, it was actually American Income Life.
Technically the ad wasn't listed as sales but customer service. The starting salary seemed high, so I went to company website and saw that they had several sister companies which were all insurance companies, so I knew what to expect, but wanted to hear what they had to say. I AM considering a career change.
The email told me to ask for a specific individual and my interview was set for 10:25am. The ad said they were staffing an office so I wasn't surprised to see that there were a few others signed in before me, but their interview times were all different (10:00am, 10:10am, 10:15am, etc).
I was taken into a room to fill out some background questions (and where I met the other applicants) and the group interview started with a presentation on why we should trust someone who lied to us to get in the door. Even then, they were vague.
They called me a couple of days later to say I'd been selected for a second interview which I set just because I was curious by then.
Essentially, you pay about $150 to various entities for licensing and whatnot and in return you get to go their location and dial out two days a week and training seems to consist of maybe some classes but primarily shadowing another agent.
The commission structure is (and I'm going by memory--I threw the packet away): If someone signs up for life insurance and their monthly premium is $100, the commission is 50% of what they'd pay in a year. BUT you only get 65% of that and they hold the rest to give you when that person renews their insurance the following year.
They expect you to visit with 10 families a week of which a third signs up no problem (they say). So, 4-6 clients a week (their math, not mine) at $100/mo premium means I'd make $1950/wk AND there's even a bonus for new people on top of that.
Honestly, might have been a worthwhile thing to try, but they lied about the company AND the job to get me in the door and how do I trust ANYTHING they say?
