I had an awful phone screen with an internal recruiter.
The role was to manage multiple distribution facilities. They were growing and mentioned I would be overseeing up to 14 facilities, that was the organization's goal for their District Managers. Which, in any position, is too many direct reports for any manager to be effective.
She was rushing me through the interview, was not asking questions about who I was, why I was choosing Gopuff, or why I was interested in the role specifically - it was not an initial screening conversation, it was a rude one-way interrogation.
I may have not been right for the role in her eyes, I accept that there could have been better candidates. I was already feeling a lack of interest halfway into the conversation, then I was immediately checked out when I shared my (fair) salary expectations when she asked, and received a quick, harsh "well just to be very clear, this is what the role makes and there is no wiggle room". Word. for. word.
I can tell anybody interested in the District Manager role, what they're paying and what they expect you to oversee is not worth it. You can find better value elsewhere. I'm happy the interview didn't go well because 1) I don't want to be involved in a culture that's in a constant state of frantic urgency like the recruiter was, 2) I don't want to be underpaid, and I don't want to be working with a team that is underpaid.
I would trust the low ratings on Glassdoor as a warning that the reviews are probably accurate. Maybe Gopuff needs a little more time to sort out some fundamentals before it's a sound career move for anyone who isn't desperate.
