I'm surprised by how negative of a candidate experience I had at Greenhouse. I applied through a staffing agency. I had an initial phone screen with a manager that was very thorough outlining the needs of the role and team and asking about my experience and background being an executive assistant. The conversation went well and I was told as a next step I was selected for an in-person the same week. The in-person with the first interviewer I had the phone screen with also went well and was thorough, yet engaging and conversational. I was then interviewed by another team member whom the person in the role would work closely with. This interviewer was clearly not experienced in interviewing candidates and not only was I asked very off-topic personal questions unrelated to the role, but the interview also went 30 minutes over the initially scheduled time. I remained polite but I thought the whole second half of the interview process was really unprofessional. The second interviewer made it a point to mention to me that it was her final decision on selecting the candidate (which I found an inappropriate/immature way in exerting her power). Interviews are a two-way street, not an opportunity to exert power in front of a candidate excited about a job with your company. I received a follow-up note that I was not selected for the role. I was, however, also given feedback as to why and was told I asked too many questions during the interview process??? Of all the feedback I would expect to receive asking too many in-depth questions was the last thing I would expect to hear... Very bizarre...
