      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto 5 mesi. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Guardian Life (Bethlehem, PA) nel mese di mar 2019

      Colloquio

First let me say that I would avoid this place at all costs. They are very unprofessional and run you through the ringer for what seems to be their own enjoyment. They hire people based upon "fit" meaning that they'd rather hire someone that is a "good fit" for their culture rather than if the person is highly skilled and experienced. They consistently repeated that they wanted someone to fit into their "dysfunctional family," whatever that means. I understand the desire for a culture fit but they seem to go to great lengths to talk about their dysfunctional family. I have a family at home so why would I want to be a part of a dysfunctional family at work? If you ask me, that's bizarre. In my experience, they string you along with gimmicks. For instance, when I interviewed in person as the final step, they put three words on a white board and asked me to rank them (team, company, industry) and then explain my reasoning for it. So, I ranked them and then each of the 4 people in the room basically gave me their answers as to how they would have ranked them and how they were surprised my answers. So basically, it was a loaded question. But the point is that it was about my rationale not their own. Two of the proposal writers had little to no experience in the role and yet their grilled me with ridiculous theory questions about teamwork, collaboration, skill development as if they were seasoned veterans. Meanwhile, I had been working in proposal development for 15+ years. To top it all off, in our general discussion about non-work life, I had mentioned that my wife and I had just acquired our first puppy and said that she was a smaller dog than I had originally wanted but that she was such a great dog. At that point the male proposal manager made a joke by asking if my smaller dog was a rat. Are you kidding me? I still can't believe that the guy insulted my dog (and me essentially) in a professional interview. I guess that's the "dysfunctional family" culture that they were referring to throughout this process. The interview process was rather long. I had my first phone interview in January and subsequent interviews over the next few months. Following an initial phone interview, I had a second phone interview followed by a panel video interview with the proposal team followed then by a second panel interview with the hiring manager and the underwriting manager. The final interview was in-person at the Guardian location in Bethlehem, PA with the hiring manager and her immediate team. The hiring manager gave me a walking tour of the building and then had some nice words to send me off with except I never heard from them again. She said she'd be in touch within a week or so but no calls or emails. I waited another week and then finally emailed the original recruiter. She never responded. I also emailed the hiring manager and heard nothing in return. I then emailed the higher-level recruiter who did respond to me a week later saying that the hiring manager was off-site for two weeks and would respond when she returned. That was in mid-May. I figured at that point that they were giving me the run-around and decided to write off that job opportunity. After I had time to reflect on the experience it really occurred to me just how unprofessional they were throughout the process. It was such a waste of my time, and in hindsight, I'm so glad that I wasn't offered a job there because I imagine it's a horrible experience to work with these people on a daily basis as part of their "dysfunctional family." I would stay away from this place and these rude, unprofessional people.
