Interview Experience for Data Analyst Intern at HSBC Application Process: I applied online through the company's career portal. The application was straightforward, requiring a resume, cover letter, and answers to a few basic questions about my background and experience. About two weeks after submitting my application, I received an email from HR inviting me to a phone interview. Interview Stages: Phone Screen with HR (30 minutes): The HR representative was very friendly and started with some general questions about my background, why I was interested in the role, and what I knew about the company. They asked about my previous experience with data analysis tools and my familiarity with Excel, SQL, and Python. There were also some behavioral questions like "Tell me about a time you worked in a team" and "Describe a challenging project you worked on and how you handled it." Technical Interview with a Senior Data Analyst (45 minutes): This interview was more focused on my technical skills. The interviewer asked me to explain a project from my resume in detail. I was given a few SQL queries to write on the spot. They were relatively simple, involving SELECT statements and basic JOINs. There were also questions about data cleaning techniques and how I would handle missing data in a dataset. Lastly, I was asked to solve a small case study involving a dataset where I had to identify trends and suggest potential insights. Final Interview with the Hiring Manager (1 hour): The final interview was a mix of technical and behavioral questions. The hiring manager asked more about my long-term career goals and how this internship fit into those plans.
