It was a 20-minute interview with the hiring manager. He started by discussing what Hopper does and how they make money. I have worked in the travel industry for 16+ years, so I was familiar with a lot of what he was describing.
He then asked me to describe the the most exciting project. While I was discussing a booking engine redesign project, he interrupted me to suggest discussing another product. I then discussed another project. He seemed impatient listening.
Lastly, he asked what exciting new thing I would propose for Hopper. I began discussing the impacts of COVID-19 and how it was important to get travelers comfortable with traveling again. He told him to forget COVID-19 and discuss something else. I pushed back on this given I know first hand the devastating impact COVID-19 has had and will continue to have on the Travel Industry. He then cut the interview and said that I was not a good fit for the company.
Overall, this was one of the worst interviews I've ever had. The hiring manager's demeanor seemed sour throughout the entire interview. There was almost no discussion of my background or experience. At one point he asked if I had ever worked on a consumer facing product despite the fact that I have several well-known travel and entertainment jobs listed on my resume. And his reluctance to discuss COVID-19 issues shows that he is ignorant of the travel industry as a whole.
Overall, given my limited knowledge of the company, the business model, and the people they place in charge, I would not recommend Hopper for any experienced product manager, especially those in Travel.

Q: Tell me about the most exciting product you have launched.
Be careful about applying to Hopper. They will take you through many rounds of ambiguous, average difficulty, and uncoordinated interviews - only to drop you along the way for candidates further along the process. (Yes, the multiple rounds and 'loop' is designed to put multiple candidates through the process, you won't know how many, and they will drop you as soon as somebody reaches first).
100% remote company - therefore low accountability. Be warned.

The interviewer had no experience interviewing candidates. They were disorganized, but worse, once over there was zero communication. I reached out a few times afterward and congratulated myself on dodging a bullet.
