Set expectations about how mentoring will work, frequency of meetings and general rules of engagement Work with the mentee (and possibly their manager) on any high level goals that we should work on during the mentoring relationship Lets the mentee drive the conversations but keep the general goals in mind Give them feedback and guidance, but avoid telling them what to do. Be accountable for the things you commit to with the mentor. Hold the mentor accountable for the things they commit to.
