It was multi-stage and all done remotely, since WMF are largely a distributed workforce. All interviews were conducted via Google Hangouts, and almost all of them included video as well. I interviewed with the recruiter first, the hiring manager next, the product manager next, penultimately one of my would-be engineering manager peers, and finally with two members of the team I could be managing. WMF were very clear throughout the whole process as to what was ahead, and were very communicative when disruptions cropped up due to things like company all-hands. They were all kind interviewers and we had some excellent conversations.

I was given sufficient information beforehand to prepare for the interview, including general details about the process and expectations. They initially contacted me via email to arrange a suitable time, and once confirmed, they provided additional information about Wikimedia, including a helpful introductory video. The interview questions were relatively straightforward and competency based. It was explained that the process would involve multiple stages with different stakeholders, including the Vice President, members of the team, and the hiring manager. The interview itself went very well in my opinion, and I felt confident I would progress to the next stage, as I was informed that my application would be passed on and that I would be contacted with next steps. However, I did not hear back within the expected timeframe. After following up, I received a generic rejection email without detailed feedback.
