Colloquio
After a few rounds of applying, I finally made it through the anonymous application process to the first round of interviews. I received an email asking me to schedule a 30-minute call from the hiring manager's calendar. All good so far, but when it comes time for the interview, I discover this is a voice-only call and not video, and that they are interviewing approximately 20 candidates in the first round and I'm one of the first. At the end of the week, they would be selecting 2-3 candidates to the second and final round. Already after hearing this, I knew I wouldn't make the cut, because there was no way I would be able to impress them simply over the phone enough that they would remember me after interviewing 20 others. Lo and behold, a week later, I received a generic rejection letter thanking me for my interest. I replied saying I was sorry to hear this but would appreciate hearing some feedback about what I could do better. The response I got was "with so many candidates, we cannot give individual feedback". Unsurprising, as they probably didn't even remember me, but extremely disappointing. Especially from a company that advises other organizations on e.g., their recruitment processes, how can theirs be this broken? Not only should you always be able to personally respond to interviewed candidates, but interviewing 20 candidates in the first place? Who could possibly benefit from that, because you will confuse them with one another and forget half. The whole process left such a bad taste in my mouth, I no longer want to work for them, but I also don't want to use or recommend their services, as indeed, I did end up in a position to make decisions about it.
