      Colloquio per ESL Instructor

      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto più di una settimana. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Intrax (Chicago, IL)

      Colloquio

There were two interviews that I did for this position: the first was a telephone interview with a representative from the San Francisco office which took half an hour. She wanted to know about my qualifications, teaching experience, and how I would handle certain situations with students. There was no pay information, or information about the hours for the Chicago office. The second interview was with someone from the Chicago office. He was very direct and to-the-point- I needed to teach a practice lesson first and he would send me the materials via email. The sessions were to last roughly from 8.30am until 12.30pm (more or less) and also an afternoon session that would be equally long. The sessions were to be intense and very much aligned with the school's idea of what the students should be learning and at what point of the course. The pay was low, around $18/hr for subsitutes (and apparently everyone starts that low) with a pretty big time commitment expected. I did not end up attending the class try-out- I felt that for someone who would be hired as a substitute teacher, the hours were ridiculous for the pay offered. Also other comments that the school was run as a business which might be good for students but poor for morale, had a great deal to do with my decision not to pursue the interview. Another thing that irritated me about the second interview- I was at work when the telephone rang, and the interviewer told me he just had a question or two and it ended up taking 45 minutes. Expect a full interview the second time around, and plan accordingly.

      Domande di colloquio [1]

      Domanda 1

The questions are terribly difficult, but it's a lot to do with your philosophy and how closely you could deal with their methodology- they aren't interested in teachers who have original approaches to the material or different ideas about how to cater to different students. They have their curriculum and that is what they want taught.
