I applied online through the JcPenney careers site. Got a call 2 days later to schedule an interview about a week later. The interview was pretty easy. Started off with "tell me abOut yourself" she didn't ask too many questions but did a lot of explaining about what being a sales associate is all about- being friendly, helpful, smiling a lot and saying hello to every customer you come across, etc. She said they usually do 2 interviews at once, meaning you do one interview then right after go off to another manager for a 2nd interview but the other manager wasn't in that day which I thought was dumb because it's like, if he knew there were going to be interviews that day- why would he not go to work? Or Why would they do interviews on his day off? You know? But whatever. The manager who interviewed me said I could get a call later that day or the next day for the 2nd interview. I got a call the next day for an interview the next day. Went in and sat there in the waiting area with another girl waiting to be interviewed. The manager came For the other girl since she was there first and took her into the elevator so I was like what's going on?! Came back a few minutes later to get me and I followed him into the elevator as well into the men's department and said to walk around the floor for a bit to get familiar with everything and he'll be back to role play where I'm the sales associate and he's the customer. I got so nervous because I read many of these reviews and nobody said anything about this! So me and the other girl that was getting interviewed too, walked around the floor like idiots for like 30 minutes, maybe even more! When he finally came to get me he said to treat him as a customer. If anybody goes through this, say "hi how are you doing today? Are you looking for anything specific?" he said he had a party to go to and needed some help picking out his outfit. (ask casual or dressy? Short sleeve long sleeve? Size? Color? Jeans? Fit? (skinny/straight/etc) dark wash? Light wash? Anything to want to show him- take it off of the rack or unfold it and hold it up) throughout this whole "interview", he was being sooo annoying! He was saying hi to customers and talking to the other employee while I just waited for him to finish his convo. Even with the other girl, he was even working the register ringing up customers while she just stood on the side and waited for him! Like I understand he's a manager and has a lot of responsibility but like hello we're on an interview here! Could you forget about them for like 5 minutes so I can get out of here? Then we went back up to his office and he just asked about my availability which was completely pointless to have me go back up there just for that one simple question.

Easy, got hired in 1 week and was able to start as soon as possible. It was a good process and I liked the people I interviewed with. The culture is off to a positive start.

The interview process begins with an initial screening to review qualifications and experience. Selected candidates then participate in one or more interviews with the hiring team, which may include behavioral and role-specific questions. Final candidates may be asked to complete an assessment or meet with senior stakeholders before a hiring decision is made. Candidates are kept informed throughout the process.
