I applied Online about 6 weeks ago. This was a position I felt very positive about, I met pretty much all of the requirements and had a huge amount of enthusiasm for the company so I expected a response.
A couple of weeks went by with nothing. Jagex work very hard to prevent you from being able to contact them so it's very tricky to get ahold of someone and ask for an update. A friend of mine applied for another role and received their rejection from a no-reply email so no way of asking for feedback.
Eventually I resorted to trying to get in touch with someone via LinkedIn which eventually I managed to do so and was told that the role was ideally suited to someone only a year into their career and might be a lower salary than I'm expecting.
I'm 34, currently making a career transition so I felt that a Junior position was ideal and I was good with the Salary bands. I smelt a bit like I'd been dropped early because of my age but after explaining this, I was offered an interview.
The interview was one sided and online. By that I mean I was given 4 written questions and had to record a 2 minute response to each of them.
Given that 2 of the questions were completely unrelated to the job, "How is your day going so far?" and "Tell us something about yourself", and one of the others was "How did you find the advert", to me this felt like a bit of a vibe check: Are they serious? Will they fit in? Do they seem like a friendly person? etc. I don't really understand how anyone could fail this step unless they either didn't do it or showed a really bad attitude.
Anyway.. two weeks passed with nothing and eventually I received an email saying to "expect a reply by the end of the week".. nothing. I sent an email asking for an update the following Tuesday.. nothing. At this point I just felt like I was being ghosted so I sent a final one on Friday and eventually got a general "Sorry you've been unsuccessful at this time" email. I responded asking for feedback.. nothing.
The who thing felt extremely impersonal. In the 6 weeks with 1 interview I never spoke face to face or on the phone with anyone.
Since I didn't make it through the vibe check and couldn't get any feedback I can only assume age discrimination. They were looking for someone younger that they could get away with maying the minimum.
Honestly considering I was so excited to work for Jagex, the whole experience has put me off applying again in the future.
