      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso KPFF (Irvine, CA) nel mese di apr 2021

      Colloquio

The interview lasted about two hours. I was interviewed by a principal and mid-level engineer. The first half I was asked to introduce myself, about my coursework, and previous work experience. The second half was technical questions . After about 3 weeks I was contacted again for a 2nd interview. This interview was with a different principal and mid-level engineer. They asked to tell them about myself, my coursework, and previous work experience. No technical questions.

      Colloquio

This was a 3 hour interview. 1 hour consists of going over the company (company values, project type expertise, benefits etc) 1-1.5 hour on a technical exam. the exam is like 10 pages long and they have you explain each question as you finish it so they are there in front of you as you are working through each problem, honestly the exam has everything structural basics and it is pretty detailed so study and memorize formulas. The last 30 minutes is a tour of the office. I was taken aback by the technical exam, it is nothing you don't see in school but it is very specific and conceptual ie questions that need concrete or steel design formulas to solve, interaction diagram for RC, deriving stress block for RC, knowing K value for different column supports, deflection of columns and frames, moment and shear diagram for a multiple span beam. so definitely spend a whole day before really studying concepts and reviewing notes. having to do the exam while they are in the room and explaining each question as you go is intimidating and awkward and it is very disappointing to learn all about the company and see how cool the office is only to not get an offer. They don't really focus much on your resume or portfolio or have you talk about your experience in design much, overall I think the exam is the determining factor so just be prepared and know everything conceptually.
