Process is 4 rounds after original screen call. The order of each round was, Director Software Engineering, Tech lead, CTO, HR.
The screening call with the recruiter went well. He asked about my background and to elaborate on my experience. He then began to explain the role and the organizational goals to introduce AI coding tools and workflows to the team, while managing change. This sounded great and forward looking. I moved onto interviewing with Michael M, the "Software Engineering Director". From the very beginning of the MS Teams meeting he seemed detached, disinterested, and disengaged. Normally interviewers at this level will interact with you on some technical level, but he didnt at all. He didnt ask any follow up questions, he simply moved from one question to the next like he was checking off boxes on a list. Furthermore he wasn't interviewing for the same role described in the JD or by the recruiter. He was only interested in supporting his legacy Java backend and didnt mention AI at all. Not once. The best news I received was the email that they are moving forward with other applicants. I couldn't imagine working a single day under a director with zero enthusiasm, zero self awareness, and zero people skills.
