      Colloquio

This is a bit long but I have to tell this story. So I applied for this position, not actively looking for a new position but King has (from the outside) seemed like an interesting employer. Got contacted pretty promptly by some recruiter and had a first interview which was pleasant and pretty standard. After that I had to contact the recruiter to ask whether they wanted to move to the next stage. They wanted to move to the next stage which was to talk a bit with the developers. I got an invitation to this from another recruiter which was confusing. They asked some technical questions, created some scenarios and we had a discussion. It was a good technical interview I'd say, no complaints really. After the interview another recruiter contacted me to say that the developers were happy and they wanted to move to the next stage. Note that I've spoken to 3 different recruiters at this point and I have no clue who to reply to and who is handling my process. Next stage was a small coding assignment which was fine, nothing crazy or complicated. They had some constraints to not use any external frameworks and to use an extremely outdated (Sonarlint was screaming a lot) http server. Either way, finished that and sent it in to one of the recruiters. Got no confirmation that they've received it. Waited a few days, still nothing. At last I lost patience and asked whether they've even received it and apparently they had and they had also reviewed it. The fact that I got no confirmation on my submission along with having to mail to ask for the actual result is wild to me. Totally unacceptable behaviour in my opinion. They did not want to move to the next stage as they found problems with my code and that is fine, I attach no pride to my code (as any good developer should). However, it seems like they want the code to be written in a very particular way and complain about "clean code" issues otherwise. I've been writing enterprise level Java code for a long time and have been lucky to learn from some of the best in the industry and have basically copied their style of coding to a large degree. For them to complain about "clean code" seems a bit biased on their style rather than being being based on actual guidelines. It also took them a "long time" to unravel parts of the code which to me, sounds like some amateurs reviewed my code. It was an extremely simple task and a very small application. Along with the fact that they've probably seen this task solved over 100 times from different applicants I can't imagine an experienced person taking longer than 10 minutes to grasp the entire code. My guess is that I used modern Java to write it and that confused them, but I can only guess. I would love to actually talk to the devs who reviewed my code and learn what I can improve on but to get the feedback, filtered through a non-technical recruiter who is unable to pro-actively answer emails is frustrating if not downright insulting. Overall my experience was pretty bad. The interviews were fine but the fact that I had 3 recruiters taking turns on handling my process, were unable to even provide basic responses to emails and then finally providing a vague review of my technical assignment made King a company I'll never consider in the future again. I've asked for the recruiter to elaborate on the issues that were found but I expect no reply and to be fair, they are not obliged to answer once the process is finished on their end, but it would be nice. But as this process has taught me communication is not their strong side, so I can't expect nice, when bare minimum is not even met.
