      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura tramite segnalazione di un dipendente. La procedura ha richiesto 4 settimane. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Konrad Group (Toronto, ON) nel mese di gen 2020

      Colloquio

Cliffs: All engineer positions, regardless of level or specific focus, get the same interview. The layout is 4 stages; the first stage is the quick intro meeting with the HR rep, the second step is a 1.5 hour technical interview with 2 senior team members, the third step is a 3 hour take home project, and the final step is an interview with one of their upper management. The process is decent in terms of difficulty, and the devs seem great, however they have a tendency to mislead. And while they are not forced to be straight forward, it can end up being a waste of time for both parties. Details: I applied to the senior dev position via an employee referral, and after conducting my first interview I was told that due to their high volume of interviews that it would be a 1 month wait before I could get my second interview. I was given the opportunity to complete the take home exam ahead of time, which as described many times on these Glassdoor reviews, is a React project based on implementing a Gmail clone. You are given about 6 or 8 tasks that you are to complete within the 3 hours, you are given the problem with the source code, and you can search/stack overflow/whatever to get each task done. I'd say it's doable to finish most of the tasks but you'll need a good grasp on React, Promises, and basic JS utility functions like filter/map/etc. The technical interview was not too bad, and they were conducted by two great people. Very fun to talk to. In terms of what was asked, once again it's also very much similar to what has been posted on here (please see the questions in the next section). My issue came at the last interview. I felt really good about the technical interview and I know they did too because they booked me for the final interview within one hour of completing my technical interview for the next day. I took the meeting with the individual in the leader position and they asked the typical non-technical questions to try and get a good feel about me. It was going well until the very end, where two things occurred that threw me off: - Despite interviewing for and being re-affirmed that I am indeed applying for a senior position, I was told 'While you applied for a senior position, we think given your experience we think you are at the level of intermediate, do you agree?'. To me, I felt blindsided. If "experience" was the problem, it's poor given they had my resume for an entire month and they could have told me at any point prior that I do not have enough "experience" to warrant that title. I respectfully said that I applied for a senior level position and that is my intention, however if they deem me at "intermediate" then I would be intermediate but leaning towards senior. He agreed. - I was asked what my salary expectations were. So I responded with the same numbers as I initially stated in my very first interview with HR a month prior. I explained my justification given how much I am currently being paid, the cost of living in Toronto (I would need to move to Toronto as Konrad is not remote-first), and my research of how much the average person with a comparable title and company size gets. Once again, there's no surprises here from my end. The interviewer told me great and, I quote, "we will formulate an offer for you and get back to you as soon as we can". I did not get an offer. Timeline was: I did the final interview midweek, and I got nothing by the end of the week. In the following week, the HR person reached out to me using language that sounded very different than what I got on the call. I was told that they would reach out to me with a "decision" by the end of the week. That's a pretty interesting choice of words from the previous week where I was told that an offer was going to be made to me. Right before 5pm on Friday that week I got an automated rejection letter saying they went with a more suitable candidate from their mailing system. Not the HR, or any one of the humans that I interacted with for the past month. No explanation on why or an offer for an exit interview. I always maintained that I was applying for a senior position and I always maintained the salary range from the very first interview, so what changed exactly? I clearly preformed good enough during the interviews, if I didn't then I wouldn't have gotten to the last stage. So if it has to do with experience, why are you now analyzing my resume 1 month after my initial interview? If it has to do with my salary expectations, why tell me "we will formulate an offer" if the price is something out of budget range? And if I was good enough to reach the last interview, why couldn't you offer SOME explanation as to why the hours I spent on this was not enough? Once again, they don't owe me anything - but to end it this way leaves a bad taste in the mouth. I totally understand why a very common element in these reviews is that the company needs to grow and mature.
