      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Kroger (Aiken, SC) nel mese di ott 2012

      Colloquio

I filled out the online application. A few days later, I was called for an interview. This actually ended up being a group interview with fifteen other people. We were taken to a room by two managers. We each had to stand up and introduce ourselves, tell why we applied at Kroger, and say what department we wanted to work in. I was told that the floral department - what I applied for - would not have many hours. They tried to convince me to be a cashier most of the time. Although I hadn't applied to be a cashier, I made it clear that I *was* open to taking a cashier position. We were then put into four smaller groups of four people. We were asked three discussion questions. The groups had to come up with answers to present together. After that, the managers went to another room for a while. Then a list of names was called. That group was led out of the room. The rest of us were told that our interview process was over. The entire time, the managers "talked down" to us with the cutesy, baby-talk voice that a kindergarten teacher would use. Overall, I felt cheated. I have about five years' experience with various customer service situations and tasks (cash register operation, sales, credit card application processing, equipmental rental processing, phone-answering, etc.). I was given no chance to explain this. If I had been granted a one-on-one interview, the managers would have gotten to know more about my various experiences and skills. The applicants who *were* chosen - the ones who were led out of the room - were wearing jeans, fashion boots and sandals, tight sleeveless tops, etc. I don't normally judge by appearances, but I think that any decent employer should want someone with a professional image. Some of them, when asked why they applied, just said things like "I want to make some money" and "I just need a job". Shouldn't an applicant show some interest in the particular company? So, basically, just get out of bed and throw on whatever clothes you want, then go to the interview. Mumble a few words about wanting a paycheck. You'll probably get the job.
