I had applied to multiple positions with the EH&S Department, but the LBL recruiter I spoke with thought I was most qualified for this one. After the initial phone screen, I had two additional interviews with a panel of members of the team ranging in experience. It was a good way to get a feel for the position and how it worked. During my second interview, I was asked a range of very basic chemistry questions. For the third interview, I was asked to prepare a 20-minute technical presentation describing some of my experience as it related to the position.
So why the negative review? Two main reasons. The first was my third interview was abruptly rescheduled two days beforehand. The second, and main reason, is during the third interview, I was told that I should hear back about the position very quickly. After not hearing anything about the position for a week, I contacted the recruiter, who said that they were still making a decision, however we should discuss one of the other EH&S positions I had applied for to see if I could move forward with that in the meantime. After another week, I contacted the recruiter asking for an update on either position, and I got no response. Waited another week and radio silence. To make a candidate go through the trouble of making a technical presentation and two 1½-hour long panel interviews and not have the decency to let them know they weren't selected is ludicrous.
