I applied online (for Macy's Ala Moana) and got an scheduling invite the next day. There wasn't much date and time to choose from so I scheduled my interview a week after. On the day of the interview, I arrived 10 minutes early. As instructed in the email, I went to the HR office and picked up the phone. I was told to wait for the interviewer. Later, I got a call and instructed me to go to the Executive Office instead. The interviewer explained that she has mandatory questions to ask me regarding my candidacy for the position. She said she had to write down my answers. First question she asked was if I'm looking for a Full Time or Part Time job. I answered her saying I wanted something FT. She then only asked me the questions from her pamphlet. There were only a few questions, around 6-7 of them. Easy questions that you have to compare to your previous experience. After that, she explained to me the role of the position, the duties and responsibilities. Turns out, the position is only a 12-hr/week job. Of course this wouldn't have any benefits included. She told me that I have to have a flexible schedule because it can start as early as 6:30 am and as late as 11:00 pm. I told her I had no problems with those working hours. When it was my turn to ask her questions, I only ask two questions about the position. She then said I'll be notified of the outcome when she is done doing the interviews. Over three weeks past when I get the rejection letter. I clearly said I was flexible and remember my interviewer wrote the word "Flexible" on my questionnaire. So, I have no idea why I got an email saying " Unfortunately, your availability does not correspond with the days and hours needed for this position.".

Interviewers who ask this question likely want to know how you acted in a real-life situation in which you had to make a sacrifice to stay true to values. If you can tell a relevant, honest story that shows you making a moral decision even when it was hard, you can assure the interviewer that if a similar situation arises at their company, you would still do the right thing. Think about a situation you can share ahead of time to make sure you tell it accurately and effectively.
