I was approached through LinkedIn inbox by an internal recruiter on June 2, '22 for a 15 minute intro call. I provided availability and was confirmed for a quick intro call on June 7 at 9am PST. The next day I received a call from a separate internal recruiter. Below are some key take aways from the call: I could hear her pings and email going off and could tell she was trying to multi-task because of the odd silences after I answered questions. She asked me several times why did I apply to this job, and I explained every time I had been approached through LinkedIn inbox. She asked if I had sent my resume in and I said I hadn't yet because I didn't have anybody's email. She said I should have her email from the email invite, I repeated that all communication had been through LinkedIn inbox, but offered to send my resume if she'd give me her email. She refused to give me her email, but said she would email me right after...spoiler alert: this never happened. She then said that if I didn't have an updated resume it's ok, it wasn't necessary (what?) Since I didn't hear back from her that day, I applied through their careers page so they could have my resume. Not a week later, I received the generic, thank you for applying we will move on with other candidates. Overall, the experience was pretty lack luster and I felt disrespected as a candidate. I understand that we're all busy, and working and living from home has not been easy for folks. But that initial HR call is the organization's first chance to impress a candidate and a little respect goes a long way. I completely understand if I wasn't the ideal candidate for this role, but that call led me to believe Marqeta as a company is unorganized and frantic, and I wouldn't want to work for that type of organization either.
