      Colloquio per Management Trainee

      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura tramite un selezionatore. La procedura ha richiesto 3 settimane. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso McMaster-Carr (Santa Fe Springs, Los Angeles, CA) nel mese di gen 2012

      Colloquio

Once you apply online, you can either have a phone interview with a recruiter or a 1:1 in your career office on campus. First round is very basic (several behavioral questions with one mini case question about how you would determine who to give the catalog to). If they like you from the initial interview, they fly you out to the facility to interview in person and they put you up in the Hacienda hotel- an antiquated hotel by LAX. The day of the interview, they send a driver to pick you up from the hotel and drive you to the facility. You arrive at the facility and fill out an application. It's a paper application asking basic questions like name address school (not sure why they can't just look at your resume for all of that). On that application, they ask you how much salary you desire which is atypical for a company to do. I've never seen that before. So, you should probably browse the figures posted on this site so you have a good idea of a ballpark figure to write. First, they have a past management trainee come and talk to you and ask you what you know about the company. The person claims that they're not an interviewer, but I doubt that the don't have a say in the process as well. I had a very cold person, kinda didn't excite me about the culture just by that interaction. This person takes you around and lets you shadow three different groups for 15 minutes each and tour the facility. They ask you all these questions like "Isn't our facility so clean" "Didn't this exceed your expectations"... Next you have a 1 hr. long interview with someone pretty high up. Behavioral questions once again, with a mini case. Mini case was about accepting credit cards for accounts receivables from buyers. Once again, not too difficult. If you're a quantitative and qualitative thinker, you should be able to get through it no prob. It isn't a strategy consulting firm case. Next, you have a lunch interview, where someone takes you to eat as a "friend" but this person has stalked you online and is taking notes about everything that you say at lunch. You go back to the facility, then you have a final interview with HR where they ask you nonrelated questions like "When have you ever disagreed with a professor?" Excuse me, isn't this a Management Development Program? How about you ask me about my leadership qualities and how I would plan to lead a group of people! The culture seemed weird, the interview process wasn't too hard though. The people seemed boring, and diversity was extremely limited in the office. If they like you, they'll call you back in like 2 days, if they don't like you they'll NEVER call.

      Colloquio

Incredibly drawn out and tedious interview process with 9 total “interviews” for the entire process, including 5 on the on-site final round. Open-ended questions about yourself and different processes/projects at the company.

Made it past phone call screening and had a one-on-one chat with a current manager before final round of interviews. Each round was 45 minutes to an hour long and questions were difficult. Have lots of examples ready. Have different answers ready for similar questions.

The interview process was absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. I really appreciated that the discussions were fully behavioral, allowing me to naturally draw on my past experiences. Furthermore, the company truly goes out of its way to treat you like a VIP throughout the entire visit, covering a remarkably nice hotel stay and providing a generous stipend to ensure you are completely comfortable.
