Ho presentato la mia candidatura tramite un selezionatore. La procedura ha richiesto 3 giorni. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso McMaster-Carr (Robbinsville, NJ) nel mese di lug 2014

      Colloquio

The interview process was very long. Plan on being there for at least 6 hours for an entry level job. First, you have your phone screening with HR. Then, during your in person interview, you have to fill out an application (even though they already have a copy of your resume), and you are interviewed again by HR. Then, HR gives you hypothetical situations about the business, and you are expected to answer questions about what you would do in this situation. Afterwards, you listen to phone calls and write pretend emails describing what you would do in more hypothetical situations. Finally, you are interviewed by 2 separate managers, and they ask to to describe in detail every part of your resume.

      Domanda 1

They asked questions very specific to your resume. They also gave hypothetical scenarios specific to the business that you are expected to answer on the spot.

      Colloquio

Was contacted via a recruiter - To my surprise, he wanted to do an on-the-spot phone interview for an 'Operations Generalist' position, which I obliged. A few days later the recruiter called back and asked to do a formal interview, which was set for later that week. I kept asking for more details about the actual position, and his response was, "I'll e-mail it to you." When I went in, the reception staff was exceptionally nice and welcoming. I was told to sit and wait for my interview, which ended up being 30 minutes past schedule. I sat with a bunch of other applicants who looked freshly out of college and didn't fit into their suits. The interview itself was just bizarre (I can't stress that enough). They started off by taking me on a quick tour of the facility, then we went back to a smaller conference room where we began the interview. I kept asking what the position ACTUALLY was, and what the job description entailed... No one could give me a concise answer. It was always just described as, "a little bit of everything." So, if I have no idea what the position actually is, know relatively nothing about your company aside from a 2 minute tour and what I could find on Wikipedia, how am I supposed to properly interview for it or even show interest? This became frustrating and nearly insulting by their responses and attitude. Anytime I was asked if I had any questions, I just plugged for more details about the actual position... Which was never given. After the first interview was complete, a second person came into the room and began asking the same exact questions. We did a few roleplaying scenarios, and then they thanked me for coming in. I left with an odd impression - I still didn't know what the heck the position actually was, but I at least knew at this point it was NOTHING at all what I had assumed and initially had a faint interest in, some of the interviewing staff was exceptionally rude and extremely condescending, and each interviewer kept emphasizing how they placed value in intelligence above all else. It felt almost like a secluded cult. It definitely wasn't an experience like I've ever had before. If a recruiter contacts you, I'd say press ignore.

      Domanda 1

"How will you be an asset to this role and company?' That was difficult to answer, only because even after several attempts, they never described the actual role to me.

      Colloquio

I was contacted by a recruiter from HR who had seen my resume online. We spoke on the phone a couple of times briefly and before having a phone interview. I wasn't exactly sure who the phone interview was with before I actually spoke to HR again and realized this was the interview. Luckily the phone interview was very simple. We set up a face to face interview the following week. I went in and filled out an application. Then I met with the HR person who recruited me (this was the first interview). Then I met with two more people from HR who asked me a question each and had me do an exercise. All in all, I interviewed with three people from HR, participated in three exercises and was asked a few interview questions. The exercises were simple and involved listening to recordings and responding to customer needs. I also had to find a product on the website and go over the pros and cons of handling a customer solution in various ways. The interview process was pretty straightforward, but I had gotten the impression that my recruiter was less interested that when they initially contacted me. This may be due to the fact that I had a difficult schedule when trying to set up an interview time or due to some inconsistencies between my stated reasons for leaving a previous employer and what I wrote on the application when I got there. (In reality, I had several reasons for leaving an employer after two years, none of which were negative) I was surprised that everyone I interviewed with was from HR and not anyone who actually works in the operations department.

Tell me about a time at a previous employer when you received feedback based on your performance.

A lady from HR contacted me via text message regarding a position at the company, we set up an initial phone interview and spoke later that day. Phone interview was standard...once we finished we then set up an in person interview. I did some research before I went in for the interview so I knew what to expect...I actually told myself that I was going to accept the job if offered, but after being there for a couple hours I could tell that the job was not for me. Honestly if you have any ounce of pride it would be tough to work at McMaster-Carr. They do give you several tests, but its literally just to see how you think and is not very hard. Just take your time and think logically, they also give you some guidance with the questions.

I guess the hardest question to answer was the "where do you see yourself in 3-5 years"...it was tough because they ask you this right after you are informed that as a generalist you will never move up in the company....
