Colloquio
The initial stages were a friendly interview with HR and a task to create a PowerBI dashboard, which were positive experiences. However, I think the technical interview phase does not reflect my technical capabilities.
During the interview with the hiring manager, he requested me to explain visuals to a non-technical person, which I found strange. He also refused to review the M codes I had written in Power Query. Instead, he wanted me to show each query's step-by-step effect, an approach I hadn't encountered in technical PowerBI interviews before. After the task, he asked me "technical" questions like "Are you comfortable with Power Query?". I wanted to show what I am capable of five minutes ago, you said no, and now you are asking me if I am good or bad. Anyway, I got rejected with a generic email.
Seeking feedback after the rejection, I was informed that another candidate demonstrated stronger technical BI skills and better storytelling abilities. While I understand the subjective nature of storytelling, I am uncertain if a fair evaluation of technical capabilities, such as M codes and DAX, took place during my interview.
For those unfamiliar with PBI; picture hiring a Front-End Developer. During the technical interview, you only view the pages without checking the actual code. Then you refuse him due to his technical abilities.
Long story short: I had the least non-technical "technical interview" in my career. And it resulted in rejection due to my technical abilities. While rejection is a part of the job search journey, I hope my feedback contributes to refining the technical evaluation process for future candidates.
