      You know it’s going to be delightful when one of the interviewers starts off by telling the recruiting coordinator (who’s still setting up the call) that they’re in a terrible mood. In 28 interviews this was the first to involve a person who was rude in any way. And it went on for almost the entire interview. There were three people total, two were delightful, and asked normal behavioral interviewing questions. The third was clearly having a terrible day, or was trying to stress interview—but didn’t understand how stress interviewing works (e.g. you want to refrain from attacking mentors, if at all possible)—and didn’t have the composure to maintain. Before I was even able to say thank you for interviewing me and goodbye, the angry one started planning the post-interview chat and complaining about all the work they had to do. I’ve heard the majority of the attorneys are delightful, but after this interview all the money in the world wouldn’t convince me to reapply to this firm next year.

      The normal questions I was asked were along the lines of: What are you looking for in a firm? What kind of law do you want to practice? The (I hope) stress interview questions were resume-specific, or responsive to answers to normal behavioral interviewing questions.
