Applied on line thursday-friday I get an email asking for an informal chat about the role the following monday (yesterday).
Monday-I go for this informal chat where the role is explained to me and asked if I am still interested which of course I am. At that point I was told to expect a phone interview from HR this afternoon.
This morning I get the email telling me I had been bumped with the usual excuses. It contained the usual such as;
You came across really well at the interview and it was a pleasure to meet with you and learn more about your skills and experience.
Although we were impressed with your background and experience, we have decided to pursue other applicants whose skills and experience more closely match the requirements for this role.
Lets break this down-I had relevant skills and experiences like customer service along side driving and inspecting vehicles. Granted I had no sales experience but that is the point of a TRAINEE job-to gain the skills and experiences other wise you would be at the next level-or is the trainee part of the title used in order to get experienced staff on the cheap??
I had plenty to offer this role and plenty to learn but at 38 years of age I never really stood a fair chance. Motorpoint claim on their website they welcome applications from all ages but if you are over 30 then it's a waste of time, it's 99.99999999999% certain you will be overlooked in favour of the 20-something with little to no life experience. Now it's not what you know or what you can bring to the role it's how old you are, how cheap you are to employ and how easy you are to manipulate that counts. Ageism at it's best...
Just waiting for the spin and lies to defend this....
