After uploading my CV to a number of job boards I was approached by a recruiter with the job opportunity. Before a face to face interview I was asked to carry out a programming test - Essentially can I build a small java application to solve the problem of parsing and splitting XML where the schema is not known then deal with some of the nuisances of working with XML. The interview itself was conducted via video conference and consisted of an overview of the company, a dialog between me and a consultant to the business on where I could assist and them and an analysis of my attempt at the programming task with the principal developer. Video conference for the interview worked well as it gave us a chance to build some rapport. Job offer on the same day as interview and will be starting later this week!
