I applied for a fresher PHP Developer role through Naukri, and this was my first-ever job interview. The process was virtual (online), and I was excited and nervous, as any fresher would be.
During the interview, I was asked:
“Which technologies are you familiar with in PHP?”
“Which programming technologies do you know?”
I tried to answer to the best of my ability, but instead of being guided or supported, I was insulted directly. The interviewer told me:
"You are totally mad."
That sentence completely broke my confidence and left me deeply shaken. Right after that, the interviewer also asked me,
“Are you a bachelor or married?” — which I believe is inappropriate and unprofessional, especially for a technical interview.
I was then told I would receive a machine test via email and was expected to complete it at home and send it back in a zip file. But after such disrespectful treatment, I chose not to continue further.
This was a disappointing and discouraging experience, especially being my first job interview as a fresher. I felt insulted, disrespected, and demotivated.
My sincere advice to interviewers — especially when dealing with freshers — is to be respectful and professional. Your words can either build or destroy someone’s confidence.
I hope no other fresher goes through what I did.
