Nexient is an awful, awful, dishonest company. Here are some lowlights from my experience interviewing with Nexient:
* The HR representative in Ann Arbor was a smarmy jerk. He lied to me about how the interview process worked. He said I could ask him any questions. When I asked him a question via email, he never responded.
* To work at Nexient, they give you a "personality test" interview that's based on unscientific, pop psychology. Good luck with that.
* The HR person who interviewed me was unprofessional. She embarrassed the technical interviewer during my interview, which was weird and made me feel uncomfortable. I don't understand why. The technical interviewer was a nice guy.
* I had an acquaintance who worked at Nexient during the time when I interviewed. She badmouthed Nexient before I even stepped my foot in the door. Basically, she said it "sucks" working there. She also said that Nexient has "crappy pay, crappy projects, crappy benefits." What a ringing endorsement. Kind of makes you want to work here, right?
* If you are hired to an entry-level position at Nexient, the company will pay you about $40,000 per year. Which is really is not a lot of money to be able to afford to live in Ann Arbor.
* Nexient *tries* to compare itself to Facebook by saying it's *kind of* like Facebook. Nexient claims it's a "fun" place to work. As proof, they offer up the fact that they sometimes have Nerf gun fights and offer free soft drinks. When I took a tour of Nexient, it was a bunch of guys staring at computer screens. No one was talking. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Nexient is like Facebook if you consider the fact that both are companies and both companies employ people.
I'm glad I didn't get an offer from Nexient. I now have an offer that is about $20,000 more than what Nexient offers to people starting out.
In summary, Nexient is an awful, dishonest company with "crappy" pay. You should only consider working here if you have no other options. Lucky for you, there are other options.
