The process can only be described as arduous! It was MULTIPLE interviews over a 2 week period. First, a phone screening that lasted about an hour. Then I was invited to interview in person - this was for a human resources-related job at the Nordstrom warehouse in Upper Marlboro. When the manager sent me the appointment for the in-person interview, I was schocked to see it was for 5+ hours!! That's how they [try] to conduct interviews at Nordstrom. I say try, because it was incredibly disorganized. The manager was not prepared for my arrival, and took me around to a couple offices until he found someone to conduct the first interview. All general questions, nothing groundbreaking. The interviewer started with, "tell me about yourself." Then I waited for a few minutes before interviewing with another individual I would be working with. She asked some of the same questions. Up next was an interview with a senior manager, who asked the same questions! I was irritated at this point - why were they wasting my time?? Why not just have an interview panel, instead of making me have the same interview with 3 different people? In hour 4, they took me on a tour of the warehouse, which was interesting. Finally, an interview with the supervisor. Several of the people I was supposed to interview with were not available that day, so I had to do a phone interview with them a few days later. They kept saying they like to promote from within -- that was a huge red flag to me that I was not going to get the job (I didn't). I ended up really resenting the experience and the waste of my time. I had to take off an entire day of work for that!

Recruiting process was very organized at first. Had an interview with the hiring manager and then a “loop” interview with two other managers back to back. Was provided with a lot of material upfront which was nice.
Two weeks after the interview I had not heard anything, so I logged into their applicant system to see my status changed to “no longer under consideration”.
If you take multiple hours of someone’s time, please do them the curtesy of at least sending a canned rejection letter instead of ghosting them. Incredibly disappointing and turned what would have been a positive experience into a negative.

I interviewed with Nordstrom when they first entered into the Canadian market. I attended 4 different interviews for an HR job and discussed my experience in depth with each leader. These interviews took place within 3 weeks. The last interview with the VP went great, well I thought. She eluded that I have excellent experience and talked about the future training program. I followed up to get feedback for weeks and then received a decline notice after 5 weeks. I spent just over 2 months interviewing and waiting for a response. When I asked for feedback, the contact simply said she didn’t have any. I was always excited to be apart of the Nordstrom family as I have been a loyal customer for many many years. The lack of transparency didn’t sit well with me as a job seeker but as a loyal customer, it really makes me think twice about which luxury retailer I should be focused on. I recently applied for similar roles which were sent to me via job alerts matching my background and I receive decline notices within days. I have to say for a company that prides themselves on providing an exceptional candidate experience, their they are lacking in this exact area.
