- Intro call with recruiter (20 mins) for some quick and general questions - Take home challenge: implement a serverless GraphQL API to maintain a ledger with transactions - Technical interview with 2 senior engineers (1 hour) The technical interview seemed a bit improvised. Also it was supposed to be about the take-home challenge but questions about it were very superficial and they focused more on other topics. I had the impression that the two engineers are more obsessed with the solution/technology that they are using than the problem itself. They really want to use cool technologies like Node, GraphQL, Serverless, Event-Driven and No-SQL but those might not even be the best tools for the problem they are trying to solve in the first place. The senior engineers didn't know how many active users they have or how much traffic their systems are handling.

Technical interview with two team members to discuss a piece of code you bring.
System design interview: It was a frustrating experience. The interviewer kept interrupting and asking unrelated questions, making it feel like a rapid-fire interrogation rather than a meaningful discussion. A good interview should allow candidates to express ideas and discuss trade-offs collaboratively. Instead, this felt like a confusing, rigid test with no clarity on expectations—one of the worst interview experiences I’ve had.

Here’s the long and tedious process Recruiter call HR screen Take home exam(3 hours) Post take home interview with 2 senior engg Engg manager/architect interview Culture fit interview Assignment was basic CRUD api. The interviewers for the most part were winging it, same old boring questions asked over and over in different interviews and they didn’t even have any intelligent followups to any of my answers. The assignment follow up was supposed to be about the assignment but they were asking questions about their stack. One of the Senior engg was clearly not a senior and getting paid in title, they were almost incoherent in the post assignment interview. They don’t do system design, how do you expect to judge a senior engg without system design. Apparently a CRUD app judged by boot camp engg by asking questions about their stack. The culture fit interview was also pretty dry, it was like they were actively trying to no build a rapport, I have built more rapport with people on an HR screen than what was supposed to be the last step in their process. My suggestion would be it’s a waste of time, don’t do it.
