      Colloquio

The interview took only a few minutes. It was an intitial meet and greet. The questions were pretty basic and standard. They were very vague regarding the day-to-day activities. I honestly asked a few times, but could not get enough information to establish what kind of a job it was. They said they wanted to find someone to train in their various "sales and marketing tactics" but didn't specify much. It honestly sounded like Direct Sales (sell make up at events) and a pyramid scheme where they wanted you to quickly open your own subsidiary.

Interview was very easy. If you are a confident and have a strong work ethic then they will hire you. The start off asking you questions and then they teach you about face to face marketing and then they tell you the growth track of the position. It sounds very attainable if you are the type of person who like to prove themselves. But beware they don't really tell you the full picture.

      Colloquio

I have no doubt this company would be great for someone starting out. I read the Glassdoor reviews and was a bit hesitant, but figured I would give it a shot and there was just some mad intern reviewing... That being said, I went through first round interviews *and I got asked to come back for second round. I believe I applied to more than one role, was excited to hear back so quickly. There were just a few red flags. I have always been told that someone should be able to explain a task to you as if you were a kindergartener (in order to cut out the BS and get to the simple facts of what something was). I went online to learn more about this company prior to the interview -- what I wasn't sure of was whether this company was a marketing, sales etc. -- lets just say that the website isn't exactly direct. So, I went in with some questions ... I asked what the day to day of the job would be in round one of interviews and the interviewer refused to tell me -- explaining that when I come back for round two interviews, that's when details would be discussed. However, it kept on being emphasized that this was a 'person to person' marketing firm (which I guess is their strong suit, but I wanted to do something in a creative realm/digital) but sounded much more like grunt work door to door salesman type like roles as opposed to marketing--from the vague round about way the interviewer was talking to me. I don't think it has any digital platform (I could be wrong here) but it didn't sound like anything I wanted to sign up for. I asked about the clientele, and got the response that there were in fact two companies they represented, an off-brand makeup company as well as a giant sports team. It was still unclear to me what the job would be (sounded more and more like sales when I in fact, didn't have any interest in sales and went in for a marketing position--maybe I was naive to assume they were different). The guy who interviewed me swore in the interview, commented on my appearance (not offensively, but should probably not have done that) and also diminished one of their two clientele who it sounds like was their only clientele until this year... Then went as far as to tell me that the other job was to get people into the stadium of a very popular sports team here -- explaining the job does itself. I was later told in the interview that they only promote from within. I was told I could go from being an entry level employee to a director within one year -- which seemed odd to me -- or that there is a lot of turn around at the company. Again, this is speculation and could be a great opportunity for someone to grow! Not hating, just laying it all out there... The true red flag that stuck in my mind was from the minute I got in there -- the woman was on the phone for 20 minutes signing them up for back to back interviews while very bad TV blared in the background. I was honestly a little sketched out from the get-go when I got an e-mail from a "recruiter representing Obsidian X" that was with a separate "company" which asked why I didn't part take in the interview process -- When in reality, the person at front desk had just gotten off of the phone with someone not coming in for an interview (I could hear the conversation) and then APOLOGIZED to ME for 'sending the wrong email') i.e. she was said 'recruiter' -- from a different company -- and meant to send it to the person she had just gotten off of the phone with -- it all just seemed a bit odd. ANYWAYS, I didn't go back for round two because I was confused and put off by the whole process. I just didn't see my goals aligning with their and felt like there was some funny business! My time is valuable -- also didn't want to waste theirs when I knew this wasn't the place for me. I think that people should definitely go for this if you are fresh out of school or maybe didn't go to school-- could be a really good opportunity to get your foot in the door (also it's easier to get a job when you have a job) but just be warned that it might not be the advertisement/marketing agency that you picture from Mad Men, but a bit more of person-person off the sidewalk interaction. Again, I don't know -- but if they respond to this, would be interesting to hear the day to day -- since I never got those details! ALSO a perk if you did work there - it's in SF proper and is close to the bart.
