      Colloquio

      Due to COVID the interview process was different than any normal interview I have had. First an interview with Instant Impact and then a Discovery Day with Octopus Energy. The Discovery Day was a 3 hour process, including 2 team tasks, Q&A session and a 30 minute solo interview.

      First you have to do a interview in willo where you answer questions by filming yourself if you get through to the next stage your then scheduled for a prep 30 min teams call to prepare you for your " discovery day " this is a day which lasts around 3 hours and in my case involved a group task , a role play and a 1-1 interview . I went away thinking all had gone well . I got a call the next day with feedback ect telling me that although I was exactly what they were looking for I hadnt done as well on role play as I should of so they wouldnt be offering me the role , they said it could have been nerves , which it was and I had actually done alot of re search but got nervous in the moment . I was very passionate about working for octopus and have applied numerous times but being told this is the reason I wouldnt be offered a role despite me being exactly what there looking for has tainted my view of them as a company .

      3 hour interview with various members of staff. Team project with two other candidates No manager input or involvement Role play with another staff member who seamed unsure of what he was doing.

      This process was too long for no reason. After your initial phone call with the recruitment partner you then go on to have 2 more 1 to 1 interviews. So in total expect to be interviewed 3x being probed with the same questions and expected to further expand each time. This doesn’t even include the other steps taken such as the interactive games and discovery day activities. I had Asimah Razaque from instant impact and I can see all the lovely reviews about her but thats most likely because those people were given the role. In all honesty she only cares about doing her job and meeting her targets, when I sent her emails to ask her questions she did not reply. She also scheduled things in without communicating with me prior and didn’t confirm anything. When she gave me feedback on my discovery day specifically 2nd interview she was talking so fast on the phone with a really bad connection. She then took a personal attack on my personality saying that I need to dial down my energy as this can be interpreted as being unprofessional. I did get to the final stage where Asimah told me it was more a general chat I would have in office and gave me irrelevant prep information like she had done previous. Whilst actually being interviewed for the third time a guy called Zain there was extremely patronising and very unbothered about anything he even walked off after he asked his questions and left me with his other colleague Luke, who was very friendly and accommodating. When I heard back from Asimah 3 days later, she said I hadn’t secured the role due to giving irrelevant vague answers, which was no different to my previous interviews and if anything better. This whole experience has really depleted me and it hurt so much more as I took time off work for the interview process only to be dropped at the final stage. For what Octopus energy are providing this interview process is a shambles and I wouldn’t recommend.
