There is not much beating around the bush when it comes to most student worker positions. They will explain what your position will be doing and they will schedule a day for you to come in and see what it is you will be doing.

Very informal. I gave my resume to the manager. Once he looked over it, he spoke with me once as I was walking in the cafe to work on homework, then hired me on the spot. I spent a lot of time in the cafe to begin with, working on assignments between classes, and my good friend already worked in there as well. The interview was essentially "Hey, do you still want to work for us? Your friend said you were a hard worker in your classes."
