      This company looks so good from the outside and I was super excited until I met a lot of people. Unfortunately, the company is going to have a lot of growing pains (as I describe below). My opinion - don't work for this company. The interview process was generally just not good. Total disorganization, no clue how to weed out strong candidates, inability to make decision dragged out the process for months Orchard may have some good press but it is quite a mess at the executive level. It is extremely top heavy. Just looking at the website, there is a CTO, Chief Analytics Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Commercial Officer, Chief Compliance Officer among tons of other managers, senior managers, heads, directors AND a senior director. What a mess!!! The CFO was somehow given control over law (he has expressed that because he has a JD, he knows about the law even though he has never practiced), HR and finance. Unfortunately, he isn't very qualified and doesn't seem to know what he is doing. There is tons of overlap with other the executives and among them and all the other "senior" people in the company. It results in inefficiency, poorly run, and a waste of resources.

      At Orchard, our people are everything. We aim to strike a balance of expertise, passion and culture fit with every employee that comes on board. While it’s unfortunate to hear that this individual had a negative interview experience, I’d like to point out that Orchard has never recruited for a Senior Manager of Operations and has therefore never extended an associated offer. Given the confusion this individual has on our org structure, I’d like to take some time to respond to how we’re set up. Orchard is tech startup and we run a lean and effective operation. We follow an organizational structure that is more common in the startup world than the financial services world. Our titles from a junior to senior ranking start with associates and coordinators then go to managers followed by directors, and on the more senior end, we’ll eventually have vice presidents—so not as top-heavy as this individual makes things out to be. Financial services firms treat vice president titles as more junior than director titles. Our C-suite is comprised of Orchard’s co-founders and seasoned executives with 20+ years in financial services, and they make up the management team. Because we are a lean operation, we don’t have a large internal legal department. Quite frankly, we just hired our first internal counsel position to lead legal efforts and manage outside counsel. The perfect place for this position to report into is our CFO who also oversees finance, accounting, and people operations and happens to have a JD, CPA and an MBA—an effective and knowledgeable powerhouse in our opinion. We appreciate all of the candidates who interview at Orchard. Our HR team does an impressive job of attracting and recruiting qualified individuals. We understand that people may be upset when they’ve been in a recruitment process and are not selected for the job. We do our very best to handle those situations with care and respect for the individual involved.
