      Colloquio

The interview process was fairly straightforward, but after my experience I will never trust this company again. The process began with an in-person interview with one of two heads of the company. The interview was pretty standard, about an hour, but I didn't hear back. A month later, they emailed me to ask if I was still looking and would like to come in for a second interview. This time I met with the other head of the company, again for an hour, and we clicked really well. A few days later, she called me with a verbal offer, and let me know that my final salary would be dependent on references, writing samples, and a skills assessment. I asked if any of those things would affect the status of the offer, and she assured me that it would only determine my final salary. The references and writing samples turned out great. A week after the phone offer, I met with the first company head (the one from the original interview) to go over the skills assessment. We chatted for about an hour, and he said he would check in by the end of the week. Friday comes around and I still haven't heard back, so I send them both a quick email to check in. He calls me an hour later and tells me that I didn't get the job because of the skills assessment. Confused, I tell him I already got the job and received an offer from the other head the week before. He says he wasn't aware of any such offer being made, and after an unnecessarily rude critique of my skills for the role, he hangs up. I'm left dumbfounded. I have friends who have worked in HR for almost 10 years, and they've never heard of a company making an offer, only to retract it a week later. I never heard from the second head (who made the offer) after the phone call, so I can only wonder whether the first head was lying or if she really had not told him that she had hired a new employee. Furthermore, him retracting the offer goes directly against what she had assured me wouldn't happen during the offer call. No matter how you look at it, it reflects incredibly poorly on the company. At the end of the day, I feel like I dodged a bullet with this one. If this is how the hiring process is managed, I can only imagine how poorly the actual work is managed there. I strongly recommend against applying to Otherwise, and if you feel you absolutely have to, then make sure the offer is in writing from the start.
