A good, informative screening interview. The hiring manager clearly loves their job and their workplace, and was enthusiastic about both the day-to-day workflow, and the longer-term prospects for the company. It was also clear that Oxford Ionics intends to be in the quantum computing space for the long run - they're looking to produce valuable products, rather than aiming to IPO and run away with the money. The description of the work environment - including plenty of flexibility around working hours - and of the way the company is continuously changing its software development processes to match what works for the people, rather than chasing the latest in buzzwords, made it sound like a fantastic work environment. However, I realised after this discussion that I do not have the "spark" of enthusiasm around quantum computing that, in my opinion, is necessary to do well in a startup environment; I therefore chose not to continue the process.
