      I make a lot of judgements about a company in how they choose to orchestrate their interview process. That being said, I was relieved when I stopped being considered a candidate after the second phone interview for an EA position at Palantir Technologies. For starters, the interviews were conducted by admins, not trained human resource professionals. I did great with the first EA I interviewed with, but she was engaging and communicative. She obviously had a grasp of proper interview conduct and the interview was a two-way street. The second phone interview was the complete opposite. The EA I spoke with couldn't conduct an interview to save her life. She asked me, "How do you see yourself fitting into our work culture?" I realize she was trying to see if I had researched the company (of course I had) but culture is a complicated topic and cannot be understood by someone who has not been within said culture. So I asked her to describe the culture to me in a few words, and she snapped "just answer the question!". Oaky doakey. Ultimately she decided not to forward me as a candidate because when I told her that I like to "grow" within my role, she decided that meant I was only interested in getting promoted and therefore wouldn't be devoted to my position. I guess such nonsense is to be expected when you are being interviewed by someone with no hiring background. Also, the questions were the exact same with both interviewers and they are obviously not catered to individual candidates. For example, they both asked how I heard about the company (um, through my recruiter) and why I chose to apply there (um, I didn't. My recruiter gave them my resume). I did extremely thorough research on the company; it's slightly an insult that they couldn't return the favor on even a basic level. I no doubt dodged a bullet with that one!

      1st interview with an EA - very casual and fine 2nd interview with another EA - still pretty casual 3rd interview with three different EAs (why so many EAs? What’s HR doing?) one person didn’t really know what to ask and the other two were more experienced asking proper questions. Took three days before they reached out to the recruiter (after sending an automated survey for feedback on their interview process) only to lie about my unwillingness to support more people. Real reason for hesitancy is that they all work long hours but they get paid well for it so it’s normal to be contacted at 11pm on a Saturday and work 10 hour shifts daily - that’s what they’re there for. It’s clearly a company with no work life balance who are looking for robots who will just say yes and if you look at the comments from other employees they all say the same. If you appreciate your free time and mental well-being - don’t bother. If you’re just in it for money - go for it.

      I applied to a few admin openings. Each had a vague description of who/where in the company the person would be expected to support but I was fascinated with Palantir’s mission and wanted to explore the available opportunities. 1st -Coordinator contacted me by email to set up a phone screen 2nd -A few days later had a 30 min. call with an admin assistant. After, I was sent demos of their platforms to review and had to sign a non-disclosure 3rd -A week later a 1.5-hour panel video interview with 3 additional admin assistants 4th -Few days later another 1.5-hour panel video interview including 2 additional admin assistants and finally, 1 Human Resources member 5th -Few days later another 30 min. video interview with 1 more admin assistant 1. During the setup of each of these interviews I had to ask the coordinator who I’d be interviewing with (names…etc.) 2. In each of these interviews, I was asked situational questions, often the same generic ones. 3. With each person I spoke with, I was trying to gain further context as to which admin position they thought I was interviewing for, but no one was able to provide concrete input into where I would be placed if hired, i.e., (location/section/group) 4. In my last video screen, the interviewer said she moved out of an admin role and her group was looking for an admin. Based on that statement, I asked her if this person would be potentially joining her group, she said she didn’t know, and I needed to ask the interview coordinator to gain further context. …I followed up after with the interview coordinator after and she didn’t know either. 5. A few days later, I got a no-reply, generic decline email. My takeaways: 1. I understand interview processes, it’s a great way to see if it’s a good fit on both sides but Palantir’s process is extremely time consuming, vague, and oddly structured. 2. I sensed that they were just casually interviewing me with seemingly no end in sight for concrete answers. Some of interviewers didn’t even look at my resume, were reading questions off a screen and didn’t seem all that interested. 3. I’ve interviewed at higher-ranking companies and had much more enjoyable experiences. Palantir was just awful. Don’t waste your time.
